Clinica Sierra Vista CEO Dr. Olga Meave announced the organization is using its 55th anniversary to distribute free treats and local service information to residents. The clinic held a Trunk-or-Treat event on Sunday in southwest Bakersfield, drawing hundreds of visitors who formed lines around the parking lot.

The gathering took place days before the holiday. Families attended without a required cost, a factor that proved essential for many households. Jamie Lujan, a local grandmother, noted that the free admission allowed her to bring her entire group without financial stress. "It's most definitely a help out when you get to bring the whole family and not worry about what the amount is or if we're going to be able to stay or if they're gonna want something that we can't get them," Lujan said.

Volunteers decorated their vehicle trunks and filled them with candy for the crowd. Participants, including children and adults, wore creative costumes for the afternoon event. The festive atmosphere served a practical purpose for the attendees who relied on the free distribution.

Community organizations joined the clinic to connect families with resources across Kern County. Hannah Weightman from the Community Action Partnership of Kern participated in the event. She decorated her trunk with a Hocus Pocus theme and used the occasion to speak directly with neighbors. "I love being able to communicate with the community and show them that what services we have available because a lot of people they don't know what services are available to them," Weightman said.

Meave stated that the clinic viewed the gathering as a method to give back during a period of financial pressure for many households. "I think you know the situation is not easy for anybody so when we have an opportunity to provide something free for the community. We take it," Meave said.
