The artificial intelligence sector is currently saturated with new productivity tools, creating a high-stakes environment for developers trying to capture user attention. Anthropic is entering this competitive landscape with a new application called Claude Duet. The company aims to position this tool as a serious contender against established rivals such as Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo. The core tension lies in differentiating a new entrant in a market where new assistants launch weekly and user loyalty is difficult to secure.

Anthropic has defined a specific niche for Duet, targeting professionals and small businesses rather than the general consumer market. The company explicitly distinguishes Duet from personal agents like Instinct. Duet is not designed to handle simple errands or book tickets, and it does not display its browser activity in real time. Instead, the application focuses on higher-level management tasks, such as building daily briefings, creating data dashboards, and suggesting strategic actions based on user information.

The operational model of Duet aligns with the broader industry shift from passive assistants to active agents. These agents work on behalf of users by executing tasks in the background within their own virtual machines. This allows users to continue their own work while the agent processes requests. The system will only interrupt the user when specific approval is required for the next step in a workflow.

This launch coincides with a market trend where competitors are increasingly focusing on business use cases. While Meta’s Muse remains a personal assistant, the company has also released a version tailored for small businesses with app connections. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots is built with a business orientation, featuring integrations with professional tools. Anthropic is following this trend by emphasizing proactive recommendations as it monitors ongoing tasks.

Technically, Claude Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model. It offers extensive connectivity through more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. The agent can also facilitate online purchases on behalf of users using digital wallets like Stripe’s Link or Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, the company notes that sensitive actions, such as payments, require explicit user approval. Duet is currently not capable of trading securities or moving money between bank accounts.

Security measures are a key focus for the new release. Anthropic introduced a new classifier that scans every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is configured to reject requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification documents. This approach aims to balance automation with data privacy.

Claude Duet is currently available as an app for iOS and Android devices. It is also accessible via the web through Claude.ai for Pro and Max customers. The application is in a research preview phase, and users must join a waitlist to access the tool.
