Philippine authorities in Cebu have secured a court order to inspect electronic devices taken from the former residence of Thomas Markle Sr. The father of the Duchess of Sussex, who is now in the United States, faces questions after his son handed over four boxes of media storage units and recording equipment last week.

The material includes computers, mobile phones, hard drives, and old videotapes. Officers could not examine these items until they received the necessary legal authorization. This step follows reports from earlier this month that hundreds of images depicting child sexual abuse were discovered at the property.

Thomas Markle Jr., the 82-year-old’s half-brother and the Duchess’s half-brother, provided the items to police. He expressed a strong conviction that the matter requires a full investigation. Cebu Regional Prosecutor Graeme Elmido stated that the younger Markle was "adamant" that the case be pursued and felt his father "has to answer for it."

Thomas Markle Sr. has rejected the claims, calling them "sick lies" in a recent denial. His ex-wife, Roslyn Loveless, who died after the 2019 allegations emerged, had previously written to the Metropolitan Police in the UK about the matter. That letter was shared with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the time.

Meghan Markle confirmed the existence of the letter on Friday. She described herself as "deeply distressed" and offered her thoughts to children who may have been harmed. She explained that her long-standing estrangement from her father began in 2018 and was finalized last year, when she told him that she and authorities knew he had abused young girls.

In an interview with the Sun, Thomas Markle Jr. apologized to his sister for previously siding with their father. He stated that he had "been protecting the wrong person for the past nine years." The senior Markle moved to the Philippines last year following a series of strokes and lived in Cebu until May.

Police in Cebu must now determine how the digital material was obtained before they can decide on criminal charges. The region is known as a hotspot for the sexual exploitation of children, and local authorities said they treat such allegations with seriousness.
