The Chicago Bears defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night, a victory fueled by a strong defensive performance and efficient play from quarterback Caleb Williams. The result ends a 30-game stretch in which Seattle did not lose by more than four points, a run that stands as the fourth longest in the Super Bowl era.

Jeffery Simmons, acquired from Tennessee in a trade for two first-round picks last week, made his Bears debut with immediate force. He recorded a sack on the opening drive, added a tackle for loss, and finished with six total tackles, three pressures, and a pass defensed. Coach Ben Johnson described Simmons’ impact as profound, noting that the defense held Seattle to 252 yards and just one third-down conversion on 11 attempts.

"When I attacked the field, I wasn’t worried about the trade," Simmons said. "I wasn’t worried about all the outside noise. All I was worried about is play after play, just give the team everything I got."

Williams completed 71% of his passes for 247 yards, throwing no interceptions and taking only one sack. His accuracy set up three short touchdown runs for running back D'Andre Swift. The Bears built a 20-9 lead in the third quarter after a 17-play opening drive resulted in a 1-yard touchdown pass to Luther Burden, followed by two field goals and a 1-yard run by Swift.

Seattle struggled to gain momentum early, holding the ball without scoring for most of the first half. The Seahawks finally broke through with a 43-yard pass from Sam Darnold to Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 30 seconds left in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter, a blocked 33-yard field goal by Jason Myers kept Seattle trailing, though a forced fumble by DeMarcus Lawrence allowed Darnold to connect with Cooper Kupp for a 7-yard touchdown, narrowing the gap to 20-17.

The Bears sealed the win after Darnold threw an interception with 4:41 remaining, setting up Swift’s third touchdown of the night. Darnold finished 17 of 34 for 188 yards and two touchdowns, but the Seahawks’ ground game remained stagnant, managing only 81 rushing yards despite the recent acquisition of guard Quenton Nelson.

"We got beat. No other way to sugar coat it," Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said. "When you look at the things that it takes to win in our league, we didn't do those things and they did."

In other news, Williams wore black cleats without a visible logo to avoid a second fine for displaying an unauthorized brand mark. He said the move was intended to minimize media attention. The Bears will host Tampa Bay on Sunday, while Seattle plays Arizona at home.
