The FBI has recorded more than 47,000 arrests for violent crimes and gang membership in the last 21 months. This figure represents a 67% increase over the final 21 months of the Biden administration. The data, released on Wednesday, indicates a sharp rise in enforcement activity against violent offenders and those involved in human trafficking.

During this same 21-month window, the bureau arrested just over 6,000 child sex predators and human traffickers. This marks a 13% increase in arrests for those specific categories. The agency also reported seizing more than 4,600 kilograms of fentanyl. Officials stated that this quantity of the drug is sufficient to kill more than 350 million Americans.

The current reporting period began when President Donald Trump started his second term. At that time, FBI Director Kash Patel described the agency as facing one of the highest threat environments in U.S. history. The bureau subsequently increased its operational tempo in partnership with the Department of Justice and local law enforcement partners.

Patel attributed the rise in arrests to these collaborative efforts. He stated that the FBI delivered the largest reduction in violent crime in U.S. history. He also cited a 30% decline in the national murder rate and a 114% increase in arrests of violent crime suspects as key indicators of progress.

The agency made specific progress on high-profile fugitives. Law enforcement officers captured 10 individuals from the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list. This total is 2.5 times the number of captures recorded over the previous four years. Additionally, six suspects were apprehended from a new "Most Wanted Fraudsters" list within its first four months of existence.

This report follows a period of intense scrutiny by Republican lawmakers during the prior administration. Critics had alleged political bias and questioned how the bureau handled high-profile investigations. Patel said the agency responded to these challenges by increasing its delivery of results.

He concluded by praising the leadership structure that supported the agency's recent performance. Patel said the results occurred under a president who supports law enforcement and an attorney general who aggressively prosecutes criminals. He noted that this approach allowed officers across the country to complete their duties effectively.
