Wendy's shares climbed 15.5% on Wednesday to finish the day at $7.09 after Trian Fund Management proposed to purchase the fast food chain. The investment firm, led by Nelson Peltz, offered $7.35 per share in cash for the company. This move provided a sharp contrast to the wider market, where major indexes drifted in anticipation of a Federal Reserve decision scheduled for the afternoon.

The S&P 500 index gained 0.2%, bringing the benchmark within 1% of the all-time high set earlier this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 176 points, a 0.3% increase, as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time. The Nasdaq composite remained virtually unchanged. Market participants focused on potential signals from the Fed regarding the trajectory of interest rates, which serve as a primary determinant for stock valuations.

Wall Street consensus holds that the Federal Reserve will maintain the federal funds rate at its current level during this meeting. The central bank raised its main interest rate last month for the first time in three years to combat persistent inflation. Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh has maintained a policy of providing fewer indications about future moves since assuming his role, creating uncertainty about subsequent rate adjustments.

Corporate earnings provided mixed results for investors. GE HealthCare Technologies jumped 8% after reporting profit and revenue for the summer quarter that exceeded analyst estimates. The company also raised its full-year revenue growth forecasts. Etsy shares rose 3.9% following a quarterly profit that surpassed expectations. CEO Kruti Patel Goyal noted that the platform saw growth in active buyers from prior-year levels for the first time in two years, while its active seller base expanded at its fastest pace in the same period.

Stocks in the artificial intelligence sector held firm amid recent volatility. Concerns that high borrowing costs could impact data center construction have weighed on the sector, but confidence appears to be stabilizing. South Korea's SK Hynix, a major memory chip supplier, surged 10.9% in Seoul after its latest profit report. The company stated it is experiencing a cycle of rising AI usage and expects demand to outpace supply through 2030.

On the U.S. side, Micron Technology rose 4.7%, serving as a key driver for the S&P 500's gain. The memory chip manufacturer benefited from the broader optimism surrounding AI hardware demand. Conversely, Boston Scientific fell 6.6% despite reporting a milder profit decline than analysts projected. The medical device maker's profit forecast for the current quarter missed expectations, dampening investor sentiment.

Robinhood Markets dropped 3.3% after posting weaker profit and revenue figures for the latest quarter compared to analyst estimates. In the bond market, Treasury yields increased, with the 10-year yield rising to 5.02% from 4.99% late Tuesday. This level remains near the upper end of its recent range, which spiked after the war with Iran sent oil prices and inflation concerns higher earlier in the year.

Crude oil prices continued to influence financial markets. The price for a barrel of Brent crude, the international benchmark, climbed 2.3% to $111.96 amid ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East and the global energy sector. In international stock markets, South Korea's Kospi index jumped 6.6% following SK Hynix's performance. Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 1.1%, while France's CAC 40 experienced a slight decline of less than 0.1%.
