The Los Angeles Rams defeated the San Diego Chargers 24-9 on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, improving their record to 4-4. The victory marked the Rams' second consecutive win, a first for the team this season. The Chargers fell to 0-7, their worst start since the 2000 campaign when they finished 1-15. It was the Chargers' 10th consecutive loss, a streak that dates back to the previous season.
The Rams began the game with a sluggish offensive performance. They generated only 24 yards over their first five possessions and went zero for five on third down. However, the momentum shifted late in the second quarter. Running back Kyren Williams rushed for a short touchdown in the final minute of the half, capping a 66-yard, five-play drive. The Rams entered halftime with a 10-9 lead.
San Diego offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel faces growing scrutiny as the team's offense continues to struggle. Quarterback Justin Herbert increased his league-leading interception total to 10. He completed 24 of 32 passes for 257 yards. Receiver Ladd McConkey caught a 54-yard desperation pass on the final snap of the second half, but the play ended at the one-yard line, illustrating the team's offensive frustrations.
The Rams retook the lead early in the second half. Running back Blake Corum rushed for 32 yards on his first four carries before quarterback Matthew Stafford connected with receiver Puka Nacua on two passes. Corum then broke off a 23-yard touchdown run, extending the Los Angeles lead to 17-9. Late in the third quarter, cornerback Trent McDuffie intercepted a pass, setting up an 18-yard touchdown catch and run by Nacua for a 24-9 margin.
Stafford completed 17 of 25 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing an interception. Nacua finished with 11 catches for 80 yards. Corum rushed for 73 yards on 11 carries, and Williams added 56 yards on 16 carries. The Rams will face the Washington Commanders next Sunday and the Arizona Cardinals the following week.
Rams head coach Sean McVay indicated the team will not be highly active at the upcoming trade deadline. He stated the club expects injured players to return to the active roster. However, the injury list may expand following Sunday's game. Cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson left the contest with back and shoulder injuries, respectively. The Rams will have a short bye week before hosting the Green Bay Packers the night before Thanksgiving.
